Progress picture of the piece Popola & Devola.
At first I decided I'd do symmetric poses, but it looked very boring so I made Popola stand lower.
This is how I do them quick ones. First is the sketch, then the flat colors at 100% opacity brush. Then I start to gradually make details and shading with 40% opacity brush. (starting with darker color on bottom, shading with lighter one)
I usually flatten the layers as I go, then make a new layer on top to draw in the changes, flatten..repeat. And finally make some possibly needed color corrections and blurrings.
2 hours with photoshop.

Thanks for explaining your process. I'm trying to figure out how I wanna go about doing art so reading other peoples processes is really helpful!
